The Light Rail Track of Jingyue Line Paved
Receiving Passengers in the Late of Next Year

The light rail project of Jingyue line (the second period project of light rail) which is noticed by all the citizens has achieved stage outcome. The track with total length of 17.36 kilometers has been paved up. In 27th, municipal leaders Zhu Yejing, Yu Deman and directors of related departments took a light rail vehicle in spirits, and set out from Weixing Road underground tunnel east towards Jingyue line to check its speed and convenience.

Light rail is the best means to develop traffic undertaking for the modernized cities which reach certain scale all over the world. Recently, the number of vehicles increases at the speed of 15% annually in our city, while the expanding speed of roads is just 3%. Developing express track traffic and establishing comprehensive transportation system which takes traffic transportation as the diaphysis are the main tasks for the development of our city. The light rail construction began to be brewed 20 years ago. The first period project began in 1999 and the building of Jingyue line has also undergone great pressures such as capital difficulty. So we can say that it is not easy to achieve todays outcome. According to the plan, the construction of the stations along the track and their decorations will begin next year. This line may be put into use in the late of next year. Zhu Yejing expressed, the using of this line will lead the development of south new city of Changchun, and promote Convention and Exhibition Industry of Changchun. In the ice-snow festival of next year, citizens can go to Jingyue for skiing by the light rail.

Jingyue line begins from Renmin Street Weixing Square, along Weixing Road, Jingyue Street, passing Weixing Bridge, Convention and Exhibition Center, Century Square, east campus of Northeast Normal University, Jingyue Lake National Forest park, until Changchun Movie Century City. The total length is 17.36 kilometers, including 1.5 kilometers length of tunnel. The viaduct is 111 kilometers long. There are 17 stations along the whole line, including 10 elevated stations and one underground station. The line will be equipped with 42 light rail vehicles. After all of these are put onto the line, intervals between the vehicles will decrease to 8 minutes.
The second period of light rail next year will finish 12 projects such as station decoration along the line etc, including underground station of Weixing Square, the decoration of 10 elevated stations, elevated station of Jingyue Lake Park, Changchun Movie Century City station construction and erection along the line.

Combined with the reconstruction of the shanty towns, the preliminary preparation of the third period of light rail will also be developed from next year, making efforts to start the construction in 2007. The track of the third period construction of light rail will connect with the first and second to a doughnut, forming the basic network of the express traffic track of Changchun City.
