Origin of Jingyuetan

There is a beautiful and touching story about Jingyue Pond.

Legend has it that Queen of Heaven had seven daughters, and all of them were very beautiful. Among them, the youngest is the most beautiful and kindest one.

One day, the seven sisters flew down to the human world, and they were fully attracted by the beautiful scene. Some of them were picking up the wild flowers, and some were bathing. At this time, the youngest fairy saw a young man, with a ragged umbrella, walking through and wiping tears. So she became a county girl, and met the man to ask him why he was so depressed.

This young man was Dong Yong.

Dong Yong was a poor pedant, who had lived with his elder brother, but his brother's wife forced him to break with them. Dong Yong got nothing but an old cow and a shabby thatched hut. Because of the drought, he had no seeds to plant, so he wanted to borrow some seeds from his brother. However, considering his sister-in-law's disagreement, he felt depressed, and marched with tears.

Then a county girl got in his way, and bumped against him. “How can you bump against me?” the girl said.

Dong Yong raised his head and found a beautiful girl before him. Red in his face, he apologized to her. But the girl did not forgive him. Instead, she insisted on marrying to him. Dong Yong even could not believe his ears, and said he was very poor and had no food to eat. But the girl said “I'd prefer to go hungry with you.” “But I am so poor that I even have no good clothes to wear” said Dong Yong. “I can sew and wear old clothes” the girl replied. Dong Yong had no other excuses, and had to lead the girl to his home.

When other six sisters found their youngest sister fell in love with the idyll life on the earth and would like to live with Dong Yong, they felt reluctant, but flew up to the heaven palace. The Queen of Heaven got angry to the news, but she decided to forgive her and waited her to change her mind and come back. Several days passed, and the young fairy was still out. Therefore, Queen of Heaven dispatched the troops to bring her back.

That day, the sky was covered with dark clouds, the lightning flashed and the distant thunder rolled. A heavy gale blew the fairy up to the sky. Looking back to the hut where she had lived, the fairy can not help shedding tears.

She cried “Dear Dong, in next spring, I will give our son to you under the tree where we pledged our love.” Then she was forced to leave.

But her two drops of tear fell down to the earth. One dripped in the southern area and became the San-moon Lake in Taiwan , and the other dripped in northern area and became the Jingyue Lake in Changchun . These two lakes became very famous and told the deep love between the lovers separated in the heaven and in the earth. However, it is just a beautiful legend. The fact is that Jingyue Lake was formed due to the movement of the Himalayas and outbreak of volcanoes 150million years ago. Here is the branch range of Dahei Mountain , one after-branch of Changbai Mountain , and there are 119 peaks. Before there is flowing water among ditches and mountains, and rivers formed by flowing water, these water and rivers run together into the lowland. Until 1934, to make sure the supply of drinking water, the Japanese, who invaded the Northeast area, forced the settlers in the lowland to immigrate and dredged these rivers to the central area, then formed today's lake, which is called the source of water.

Jingyue refers that the forest and air here could make the brilliant moon brighter and the natural environment is grace and special that is beyond challenging.
